Menopause Fitness Mistake #2:
Are You Eating Too Much?
Or possibly not enough?
This second fitness mistake in our five part series is all about the food.
Eating, or rather our habits around it, is another biggie menopause fitness mistake. Perhaps an even bigger biggie than the exercise biggie. Because let’s face it… we spend a LOT more time eating than we do exercising, don’t we? As it should be!! For the record here, I enjoy eating and I LOVE food. I hope you do too.
Just like with exercise, when women come to me looking for help with their fitness to combat menopause weight gain, lack of energy and other symptoms, they tend to fall into one of two camps with their eating habits too.
Too much or not enough.
Maybe you’re…
- Eating too much, either out of habit, emotion, confusion, etc. Eating too much of the wrong things for your body.
- Not eating enough of the right things for your body.
- Just plain not eating enough food.
In all likelihood there’s a combination of these things going on for you.
If you’re reading this, as a woman in your 40s, 50s or beyond, chances are you’ve already brushed up against a diet or two (or 10!) in your lifetime. So the idea of “not enough” being a mistake may very well surprise you.
Traditional diets have likely had you believing, for decades, that the solution is always EAT LESS. But there’s a problem with this…
Dieting doesn’t work.
Nutrition is complex. And because we’re all different, with different genes and body types and metabolisms and intolerances and health concerns and cultural considerations and food preferences and schedules… Whew!
It’s no wonder by the time we reach this stage of life we’re so confused and overwhelmed by what to do if we want to lose some excess weight.
But the most common advice you hear blasted all over the fitness space of CUT BACK, RESTRICT, EAT LESS LESS LESS! It’s disheartening isn’t it? It’s definitely no fun. And it isn’t even the solution at all!
This is especially true for women in mid-life and menopause. Dieting is definitely NOT the answer to feeling better in your body or for long-term weight management success.
